Dr Danny Longman talks fieldwork, and the importance of the people who make it happen, at the 2026 Human Biology Association Annual Meeting
We're delighted to share that Danny gave an invited talk at this year's Human Biology Association Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado (March, 2026)!
Danny's talk, "The value of fieldwork and the people who make it possible", co-authored with Dr Colin Shaw and Professor Jay Stock, was part of the plenary session "Methodological Considerations in Human Biology: A Bit of What We Know Now and What We Wish We Knew Then", chaired and organised by Professor Michael Muehlenbein of Baylor University. Huge thanks to Michael for putting together such a thoughtful session!
Danny's talk drew on a decade of HEEP and PAVE fieldwork in some fairly extreme places, including the Amazon, the Himalayas and a small rowing boat crossing the Arctic Ocean, to make a simple but often overlooked point: excellence in fieldwork isn't just about protocols and equipment. It's about people.
No people, no science!
